All White Athletic Attire

Merion’s time-honored tradition of all-white athletic attire has been a hallmark of athletics at Merion for more than 100 years.

  • All athletic attire must be white including warm-ups, socks and hats. Colored trim is acceptable only if it is less than 1 inch in width. Athletic shoes must be predominantly white.
  • Commercial advertisements, slogans or large logos are not allowed on clothing; however, small, discreet logos are acceptable only if they are less than 3 inches in diameter.
  • For sanctioned US Squash tournaments and US Squash league matches only, the Club will accommodate colored athletic shoes for non–members participating in these events.
  • Exception: White Athletic Attire is not required in the Fitness Center or on the Paddle Courts
Cricket Room  
  • Gentlemen: slacks (khakis and denim) or Bermuda-style shorts and a collared shirt (no cargo pants). Ladies: slacks, capris, skirts, denim, blouses or sweaters Children: similarly appropriate dress
  • The Cricket Bar – the Cricket Room attire applies. White Athletic Attire is not permitted.
  • Well-kept denim in a dark shade is permitted.
  • White Athletic Attire – is permitted in the Cricket Room Glass Enclosure during all dining hours. A collared shirt is required.
  • The following are not permitted: for ladies – short shorts, tank tops, beach flip flops; for men – cargo shorts all Flip flops, crocs, open-toed shoes; hats are not permitted.
  • White Athletic Attire – is permitted in the Cricket Room Glass Enclosure during all dining hours.
  • Well-kept denim in a dark shade is permitted.
Fitness/Paddle Attire  
  • Good judgment and taste is expected when selecting athletic attire to ensure that it is in keeping with Club appearance standards.
  • Colored attire and t-shirts are permitted.
  • Shirts must be worn at all times.
Bistro Twenty20 (seasonal)  
  • Gentlemen: pants/shorts in good condition, t-shirts (no sleeveless shirts for men). Ladies and Children: similarly appropriate dress (hats are permitted for women).
  • All Athletic Attire and Club appropriate denim are permitted.
  • Swimwear, with appropriate cover-ups and shoes/flip-flops, are permitted. Bathing suits and cover-ups must be towel dried prior to entering the venue.
The Furness Room / The Porch (seasonal)  
  • Gentlemen: dress slacks or Bermuda-style shorts and a collared shirt; jacket requested. Ladies: business slacks, dress capris, skirts, blouses or sweaters. Children: similarly appropriate dress
  • White Athletic Attire – is permitted during lunch on The Porch. A collared shirt is required.
  • Denim – is not permitted on The Porch.
Courtside Cafe  
  • Gentlemen: pants/shorts in good condition, t-shirts (no sleeveless shirts for men). Ladies’ and Children’s attire should reflect the same guidelines (hats permitted for women).
  • White Athletic Attire and Club appropriate denim are permitted.
  • The following are not permitted: Clothing that is worn, frayed, discolored or otherwise in disrepair, cut-off shorts, tank tops, or offensive t-shirts.
Hats  
  • Hats and caps must be worn with the brim facing forward.
  • Athletic hats, caps and visors worn by gentlemen must be removed upon entering the Main Clubhouse and the Dining Rooms.
  • Hats and caps for women are permitted in the Courtside Cafe and Bistro Twenty20
Aquatics Complex  
  • Good judgment and taste must be used when selecting swimwear to ensure that it is in keeping with Club appearance standards.
  • Members are expected to wear appropriate bathing attire while at the Pool (thongs, cut offs, basketball shorts or t-shirts are prohibited and will not be permitted in the water).
  • Members must wear cover-ups and footwear upon entry to and exit from the Aquatics Complex.
  • Swimwear and cover-ups are only permitted in the Pool area and Bistro Twenty20.
Cell Phone Policy  
  • The use of cell phones for making or receiving telephone calls is prohibited in the Clubhouse, throughout all indoor athletic facilities and on Club grounds – including the Pool and Bistro Twenty20.
  • Verbal cell phone use (including using headphones or a watch while talking) is restricted to the Club’s parking areas or designated phone booths in the Clubhouse.
  • Members and guests are asked to place their phones on vibrate or mute while on Merion’s premises. Silent communication on mobile devices, including texting and emailing, is permitted at the Club.
Smoking Policy Smoking/Vaping is not permitted at the Club.
Social Media Policy Members and guests are expected to show appropriate decorum when sharing on social media. Sharing or posting information via email, text or social media which is deemed to be not in the best interest of The Merion Cricket Club will constitute a violation. In addition, posting photos of and/or information about members, guests, or staff on any website or social media platform – without their expressed prior permission – will constitute a violation. Communications with outside media agencies or sources about The Merion Cricket Club without the written permission from the General Manager is not permitted.

Best Practices with Social Media:

  • Think twice before posting: Privacy does not exist in the world of social media. If you would not say it at a conference or to a member of the media, consider whether you should post online.
  • Secure Permission: Only those authorized to do so may speak on behalf of The Merion Cricket Club. Permission must be secured when posting material related to MCC or attempting to reflect the views of MCC.
  • Be respectful: Understand that content contributed to a social media site could encourage comments or discussion of opposing ideas. Responses should be considered carefully in light of how they would reflect on the person posting the message and/or Th Merion Cricket Club.
Clubhouse Parking? Clubhouse parking is typically self-park. If you are attending an event, valet parking may be available.
